PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply match a scanning image with the background of a document when pasting the scanning image to the document, or the like. SOLUTION: When using the background of the scanning image for the background of the document, a maximum area of predetermined brightness or more and of less density change is extracted as a pattern image from the background part of the scanning image on the basis of the basic pattern of the background, and image processing (steps 100 to 116) is performed so that the periphery of the pattern image will have the same density. The thus formed pattern image is arranged in the document as an object image (step 118). Thereby, the document can be formed whose background is nearly the same with that of the scanning image.
