PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method and a manufacturing apparatus of an image display device, capable of obtaining perfect sealing by improving wettability of a metallic sealing material with respect to a sealing face by breaking an oxide film or the like formed on the surface of the metallic sealing material. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the image display device comprises a process of filling indium (a metallic sealing material) molten between sealing faces of a back side substrate 12 and a front side substrate 11 through a nozzle N; a scratching process following the filling process, for breaking and shaping uneveness form f for the oxide film S or the like formed on the surface of indium by forming many scratches on the surface of an indium layer 32, filled in each sealing face of the back side substrate 12 and the front side substrate 11, by using a roller R; and a sealing process following the scratching process, for sealing the back side substrate and the front side substrate at the sealing face directly or indirectly, by heating and melting the indium.
