PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accord the moving direction of a pointer on a screen corresponding to an operated moving command key with the moving direction of a retaining body even if an operation display device connected to an electronic sewing machine is used in an attitude other than a normal upward attitude (a vertical attitude). SOLUTION: This operation display device for the electronic sewing machine is provided with a pointer moving direction table according the pointer moving direction in four rotational positions with a pointer moving command, and a retaining body moving direction table according the moving direction of the retaining body corresponding to the moving direction of the pointer in the four rotational positions with the pointer movement command. When a display key is operated (S15: Yes), a value of the rotational position counter KC is increased by one (S16) and an xy coordinates system on the screen is rotated by 90°according to a count value (S18, S20 and S22).
