The method involves controlling a high-speed retaining function of a production line (10) by using a software. An access to the function takes place by a control unit (16), which is provided in the line. A start push-button is used as control unit for starting and stopping of the production line. An optical and/or acoustic warning signal is delivered during activation of the function. An independent claim is also included for a device for execution of a method for operating an automated production line.
