摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve brightness reproducibility of a photographic object by determining a gradation adjustment method on the basis of an index quantitatively expressing a photographic condition of photographic image data and a distinction map showing reliability of the index. <P>SOLUTION: An image adjustment processing part 701 divides the photographic image data into areas each comprising combination of prescribed brightness and hue, an occupation ratio showing a ratio of the divided area to the whole photographic image data is calculated in each the divided area, and a deviation amount showing deviation of a gradation distribution of the photographic image data is calculated. The index for specifying the photographic condition is calculated on the basis of the calculated occupation ratio and deviation amount, and the photographic condition of the photographic image data is distinguished on the basis of the calculated index and the distinction map previously area-divided according to a reliability degree of the photographic condition. A method for gradation adjustment to the photographic image data is determined according to the distinguished photographic condition, and gradation conversion processing is applied to the photographic image data by use of the determined gradation adjustment method. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p>
