PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain block capable of loosely rolling a load sheave in a non load state. SOLUTION: This chain block comprises the load sheave capable of winding up the load chain from which a load is suspended, a handwheel capable of normally and reversely rotated by the manual operation of the hand chain on one side of the load sheave, a pinion shaft loosely fitted onto the center shaft of the load sheave, threaded with the center of the handwheel at one end, and having a spindle gear formed at the other end, speed reduction gears integrally formed of two of large and small diameter gears and allowing the large diameter gear to be meshed with the spindle gear, and a main shaft gear meshed with the small diameter gear of the speed reduction gear and transmitting the rotational force of the speed reduction gears to the load sheave. The pinion shaft is formed movable, when the load sheave rotates the handwheel in a load unwinding direction in a no-load state, to a position where the engagement of the pinion gear with the speed reduction gears is released following the rotation.
