PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting synchronization of a video signal that is received by a receiver of HDMI specification data, without requiring additional hardware. SOLUTION: After dummy data is written previously into the packet data storage register of an HDMI receiver, the HDMI receiver performs receiving operation. After the lapse of a single vertical scanning period of the video signal that is to be transmitted from an HDMI transmitter, data are read out from the packet data storage register and are compared with the dummy data. Based on the comparison results, the existence synchronization of the video signal being received by the HDMI receiver is decided. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
