PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic image forming apparatus and a process cartridge in which a sharp image with high resolution can be stably obtained for a long time. SOLUTION: The electrophotographic image forming apparatus is equipped with at least an electrophotographic photoreceptor, a charging device to charge the electrophotographic photoreceptor, an exposing device to expose the charged electrophotographic photoreceptor to form an electrostatic latent image, a developing device to develop the electrostatic latent image to form a toner image, and a transfer device to transfer the toner image onto a transfer material, and the apparatus is characterized in that: the electrophotographic photoreceptor comprises at least a substrate having conductivity on the surface and a photosensitive layer containing at least a hydroxygallium phthalocyanine pigment having a maximum absorption peak at 810 to 839 nm in the range of 600 to 900 nm in the spectral absorption spectrum; and an electric field in the range of 3.5×105to 9.0×105V/cm intensity is applied on the photosensitive layer during charging.
