METHOD FOR SURFACE-TREATING METALLIC MATERIAL OF TITANIUM OR TITANIUM ALLOY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for surface-treating a metallic material of titanium or a titanium alloy, which hardly makes high-frequency noises even when having been applied to drive parts such as an engine valve. SOLUTION: The method for surface-treating the metallic material comprises: a shot peening step of shot-peening the surface 10 of the metallic material of titanium or the titanium alloy; and a heating step of heating the metallic material simultaneously with or after the shot peening step. In the above method for surface-treating the metallic material, the above metallic material is anα+βtype titanium alloy. In the above heating step, the metallic material is heated at 700°C or higher.
