PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To alleviate acceleration of an impact and suppress deformation when a shock absorber for a cask for transportation and storage of used fuel happens to fall. SOLUTION: The shock absorber is formed by filling wood or a woody board inside and forming an enclosure with an outer shell. A peripheral part, a center part and an intermediate part, and a peripheral corner part respectively corresponding to horizontal falling load, vertical falling load and corner falling load are arranged. In consideration of characteristics of wood, the fiber orientation of the wood for horizontal falling load is set in the radial horizontal direction, and the fiber orientation of the wood for vertical falling load and corner falling load is set in the axial (vertical) direction. The intermediate part is divided into two sections in a circular column direction, and two materials having a ratio of specific gravities of 4:3 are employed for the sections.
