PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a segment conductor type armature which applies to voltages of different power sources for selecting the number of turns (the number of series conductors of each pole and each phase) at a fine pitch width, and shortens the axial length of an armature coil, while suppressing changes in the basic structure of the armature coil. SOLUTION: An armature core includes N (N is a fraction) slots in each pole and each phase. One U-phase coil includes a plurality of waveform winding portions 72 and superposed winding portions 82, which are alternately arranged. The waveform winding portions include a first layer conductor 73a and a fourth layer conductor 73b separated by a first pitch, a U-shape bent portion 75, and a pair of jointing side ends 77a and 77b with the ends open. The superposed winding portions include a second layer conductor 83a and a third layer conductor 83b separated by a second pitch, a U-shape bent portion 85, and a pair of jointing side ends 87a and 87b of with the ends open. Ends 78a, 88a of the first layer conductor and the second layer conductor apart by a third pitch are jointed, and the ends 88b, 78b of the third layer conductor and the fourth layer conductor separated by a fourth pitch are jointed.
