PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalyst which absorbs visible light of a longer wavelength. SOLUTION: The visible light-responsive photocatalyst comprises a tin/d-block metal composite material obtained through hydrothermal treatment of a bivalent inorganic tin salt and an alkoxide of a d-block metal chosen from the group consisting of titanium (IV), niobium (V), tantalum (V) and zirconium (IV) under an alkaline condition.
