One or more components of elastomer material in a tyre are formed by dispensing elastomer material through a nozzle (20) of an extruder (16) to form a continuous elongated element (17) of flattened section that is laid in the form of coils (25) disposed close to each other on a laying surface (15a) carried by a support element (15), while said support element is driven in rotation and suitably moved adjacent to a die (21) of the nozzle (20). The nozzle (20) is drivable in rotation by an actuator (28) so as to modify, in accordance with a preset program, orientation of the nozzle itself during formation of the tyre component.
