<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant protecting device for a vehicle capable of preventing the front and rear from being twisted relative to each other near the central part during the operation to fold up a roof side air bag, in case a front and a rear gas inlet are formed approximately in the center of the roof side air bag. <P>SOLUTION: The occupant protecting device 50 for the vehicle is structured so that a constant space part long and thin in the fore-and-aft direction of the vehicle body is provided on the cabin side at the side corner of the roof of vehicle body, the roof side air bag 53 is accommodated in the space part, and that the roof side air bag is inflated toward the cabin along the side glass with the gas generated by an inflator 51 upon receiving an impact force having a certain magnitude or more.
