<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus, such as a printer, copier or composite machine, that can increase convenience and can expedite responses to network packets and other requests destined therefor during a return action, by expediting return from an energy saving state such as a hibernation state. <P>SOLUTION: The information processing apparatus comprises a return information generation means for generating a plurality of types of return information for returning the apparatus from a power saving state to an operating state, a nonvolatile storage medium for storing the plurality of types of return information generated by the return information generation means, a power control means for controlling the power state of the apparatus between the operating state and the power saving state, and a storage means for storing the plurality of types of return information in association with return-requested functions.
