PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce errors and realize higher efficiency in an operation to extract ridges, water fall lines, etc., on the basis of contour information of a map which has been manually made by a person before. SOLUTION: Disclosed is a valley head determining program which makes a computer: read in the contour data, which has information as a candidate for a valley head determined from the shape of contours and has information on three-dimensional coordinates, from a storage means; generate connecting segments downward in sequence when candidates for valley heads of the read contour data do not have connecting segments generated toward candidate points for valley heads whose altitudes are one rank lower; determine start points of respective lines composed of the generated connecting segments as valley heads; and store or output determination results.
