PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance response characteristics by stabilizing alignment of a liquid crystal and to realize high quality display wherein generation of an afterimage is suppressed, in a liquid crystal display having a liquid crystal domain having radially inclined alignment in a pixel. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display has a first substrate, a second substrate provided so as to be opposed to the first substrate and a perpendicular alignment type liquid crystal layer provided between the first and the second substrates and is provided with a plurality of pixels each of which includes a first electrode formed on the first substrate, a second electrode formed on the second substrate and the liquid crystal layer provided between the first and the second electrodes. The first electrode has a shape so as to reveal alignment regulating force for forming at least one liquid crystal domain having radially inclined alignment in a liquid crystal layer in a voltage applied state and the second substrate has a projecting part projecting on a liquid crystal layer side in a region corresponding to the liquid crystal domain. The longest distance between the outermost end of the projecting part and the outermost end of the first electrode is≤25μm. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
