An ion exchanger comprising a housing (2) through which a fluid flows around an ion exchange medium comprises an expansion chamber (14) with a spring-mounted partition (12) between it and the inside of the housing, such that an increase in fluid pressure causes the partition to move against the spring action to reduce the internal volume of the expansion chamber.
