<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document management system which can confirm discarding of a printed matter even when the printed matter is distributed and an owner changes, and to provide a method of managing a document. <P>SOLUTION: In the document management system in which digital composite units 11 and 12 and document discarding units 13 and 14 are connected through a network 16 when the document is printed, a document ID for identifying a printed document and the printed document are related and held. At the same time, an identifying mark is created from the document ID, combined with the printed document, and outputted. On the other hand, a document discarding unit 13/14 extracts the document ID from the identifying mark read from the printed matter, informs the digital composite units 11/12 through the network 16, and processes the described information into undecipherable grade. And, in the digital composite units 11/12, when the document ID is informed from the document discarding units 13/14, the printed matters discarded for each document ID are counted, and it is made to notify a user. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
