<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device for an elevator reduced in the generation of vibration and noise. <P>SOLUTION: A fitting member 11 is fitted to a guide rail 8 provided in a hoist way. A limit switch 12 is fitted to the fitting member 11. An elevator car to be elevated along the guide rail is provided with a cam 13 for turning the limit switch on or off by colliding with the limit switch.
