<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicular periphery monitoring device and a vehicular periphery monitoring method capable of executing real-time processing and of realizing monitoring of a plurality of visual fields at low cost. <P>SOLUTION: This lighting system 1 is provided with: a reflecting surface H at least partially formed with an ellipsoid of revolution and having first and second focal points A and B; a light source 3 disposed at the first focal point A of the reflecting surface H; and a lens 4 installed on the second focal point B side for focusing light from the light source 3.
