PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly switch lock-up slip control and lock-up engagement control. SOLUTION: This control device for a continuously variable transmission comprises a slip control means (step S12) for performing lock-up slip control, a slip control implementation judging means (step S2) for judging whether the lock-up slip control is implemented or not, a first car speed judging means (step S10) for judging whether a car speed is higher than a predetermined first value or not, a slip detecting means (step S4) for detecting slip on the basis of difference in rotational frequencies, and an engagement control means (step 6) for starting engagement control when it is judged that the lock-up engagement control is implemented, the car speed is higher than the predetermined value, and further the slip detected by the slip detecting means is less than a prescribed slip quantity.
