PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for mass-producing ethylene depending on no fossil material. SOLUTION: The method comprises the following process: Temperature is regulated by a temperature regulator 5 while agitating by an agitator 4 a culture medium incorporated with lipids in a culture tank 2. Microorganisms are then cultured in the medium in the culture tank 2 to produce ethylene, which is retrieved under the production by a relevant mechanism 6. By this method, the objective ethylene can be efficiently mass-produced from the lipids easily available in large quantities, namely, can be produced sustainably without using any petroleum feedstocks, alternatively to ethylene production process using petroleum feedstocks. Thus, the objective ethylene can be efficiently and sustainably mass-produced using an organic matter as a kind of agricultural wastes. The ethylene thus produced can be used as an industrial feedstock and can be utilized as a phytohormone in the agriculture as well.
