PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing an increase in driving torque of a transfer material conveying means. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus having an image carrier 9 carrying a toner image, a transfer material conveying means 7 of forming a nip part N with the image carrier 9, carrying a transfer material S on a surface, and conveying the transfer material S to the nip part N, and a transfer means 13 of transferring the toner image at the nip part N from the image carrier 9 to the transfer material S on the transfer material conveying means 7 is configured to switch the pressure of the transfer means 13 applied to the image carrier 9 when the transfer material conveying means 7 and image carrier 9 come into contact with each other.
