Controlled compositions of TiNi-base alloys are prepared in a graphite crucible by heating in it to above melting point by external power application a prealloyed material of the alloy type to be obtained and then charging and melting the component metals in the molten alloy in such a manner as to prevent direct contact between them and the crucible walls, and in such proportions that the molten alloy stays within a range in which it will not pick up appreciable amounts of graphite from the crucible.
|
