<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-gap type liquid crystal display device whose display quality is better than before as a phenomenon of coloring of a part which should be black when obliquely viewed is suppressed. <P>SOLUTION: A first polarizer 25a and a second polarizer 25b are arranged respectively on both sides of a liquid crystal panel 20 where the thickness of a liquid crystal layer is set for every color of a color filter. A 1st retardation plate 24a is arranged between the liquid crystal panel 20 and 1st polarizer 25a and a 2nd retardation late 24b is arranged between the liquid crystal panel 20 and 2nd polarizer 25b. The 1st and 2nd retardation plates in use are such that a difference (Nx-Ny)×d is ≤10 nm, where Nx is the maximum value of an plane inward refractive index of a main refracting index, Ny is the refractive index in the direction perpendicular to the direction of Nx, and (d) is the thickness. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
