PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inverted microscope capable of easily setting the height of an eye point to the optimum position. SOLUTION: A primary intermediate image obtained from below a stage 102 via an objective lens 105 is converted to an afocal luminous flux, and also deflected vertically upward via a deflecting prism 121. The afocal luminous flux thus deflected is passed through a connecting member 123 and observed by an eye-piece, the connecting member 123 having a lens barrel 125 or intermediate lens barrel 130 selectively attached to it and being freely moved vertically.
