A lead wire and nonaqueous electrolyte battery having undergone nonchromic surface treatment so as to excel in hydrogen fluoride resistance. There is provided a lead wire comprising (1) a lead wire metal of nickel, nickel-plated copper or copper, (2) disposed at portion sealed by an enclosing member on the surface of the lead wire metal, a composite coating layer formed by application of a treating solution containing not only a resin component containing polyacrylic acid but also a zirconium salt, titanium salt or molybdenum salt and (3) an insulator disposed outside the composite coating layer and sealed by the enclosing member. Further, there is provided a nonaqueous electrolyte battery comprising an enclosing member of film laminate including a metal foil and accommodated in the film laminate, a positive electrode, negative electrode and electrolyte together with the above lead wire connected to each of the positive electrode and negative electrode and drawn outside the enclosing member.
