The blocking or sealing element (110) is for the sealing of at least one chamber formed by a pump casing (10) and a rotatable and/or reciprocating pump plunger (20). The blocking element prevents a flow or migration of the oil between the oil inlet opening (12) and oil outlet opening (14) in the pump casing, and/or from the oil outlet opening into the region of the pump drive (30), and/or from the region of the pump drive to the oil outlet opening, especially in the neutral state of the pump plunger. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) an oil pump, especially for a chain saw, which is provided with the aforesaid sealing element; and (B) a use for the aforesaid sealing element which is for the oil pump of a chain saw, for example.
