<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a liquid crystal display device from lowering in contrast by enhancing sideward visibility. <P>SOLUTION: On an insulating substrate, a gate line 121, a data line 171 intersecting the gate line, a pixel electrode 190 formed in each pixel area that the gate line and data line intersect each other to define, and a thin film transistor having a gate electrode 124, a source electrode 173, and a drain electrode connected to the gate line, data line, and pixel electrode are formed. The pixel electrode includes a 1st sub-pixel electrode 190a and a 2nd sub-pixel electrode 190b; and the 1st sub-pixel electrode is connected directly to the thin film transistor and the 2nd sub-pixel electrode is capacitively coupled to the coupling electrode connected to the 1st sub-pixel electrode. The coupling electrode is elongated perpendicularly or in parallel to the polarization direction of a polarizing plate and has an edge perpendicular or parallel to the polarization direction of the polarizing plate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
