<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which can perform high-resolution display with superior visibility and use both reflected light and transmitted light for display. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display is furnished with a liquid crystal display element 100 having a pair of substrates 4 and 5, to which alignment films 2 and 3 are provided to their respective opposing surfaces, and a liquid crystal layer 1 sandwiched by the pair of substrates 4 and 5, and equipped with a reflection display section 9 which has a reflection film 8 formed on the substrate 5 on the opposite side from a display surface side across the liquid crystal layer 1 between the pair of the substrates 4 and 5 and a transmission display section 10 where the reflection film 8 is not formed, the reflection display part 9 and transmission display part 10 showing mutually different liquid crystal alignments at the same time. Polarizing plates 14 and 15 are arranged on the pair of the substrates 4 and 5 on sides of surfaces which do not come into contact with the liquid crystal layer 1 and when voltage is not applied to the liquid crystal layer 1, dark display is performed at the reflection display section 9 and transmission display section 10. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
