<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can obtain printing data without the printing data formed again at a client apparatus if printing fails in the printer, and to provide its control method. <P>SOLUTION: In the printer 103, it is detected whether or not the printing data transmitted from a client PC 104 is normally ended. At the time when it is detected that the printing data is not normally ended, the reason is distinguished, and the printing data transmitted from the client PC 104 is stored in a file server 101.
