PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical amplifier which makes very efficient pulse amplification by reducing reflection of light on the end face of an optical fiber and suppressing continuous lasing in the fiber. SOLUTION: The optical amplifier contains: a matching material storage member 5 which is installed at one end of the optical fiber 4, with its opening closed by a condensing member 6; and a matching material 7 which is stored in the matching material storage member 5 and consists of a medium having nearly the same refractive index as that of the core of the optical fiber.
