PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make optical loss reducible, without forming a reflection film in a diffraction grating. SOLUTION: In an optical multiplexer equipped with a plurality of light incident parts for an optical signal to enter, a diffraction grating that reflects/diffracts the optical signal entered from the light incident parts, and a light-exiting part for introducing and emitting the optical signal so diffracted; the diffraction grating is formed for the purpose of reflecting the optical signal made incident thereon and in a manner of satisfying n<SB>1</SB>>n<SB>2</SB>and an Expression (1),λ/n<SB>1</SB>d-n<SB>2</SB>/n<SB>1</SB>>sin i>n<SB>2</SB>/n<SB>1</SB>, whereλis the wavelength of the optical signal, (d) is the grating period of the diffraction grating, (i) (i>0) is the angle of incidence to the diffraction grating of the optical signal, n<SB>1</SB>is the refractive index on the incident side of the diffraction grating, and n<SB>2</SB>is the refractive index on the outer side of the diffraction grating.
