PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding material using iron or an iron alloy as a base material which has excellent mechanical strengths, has a low friction coefficient in rotary sliding, and is satisfactorily usable from an ordinary temperature to a high temperature region, e.g., of about 600°C. SOLUTION: The sliding material uses iron as a base material, and, to 100 mass% of the whole of the sliding material, molybdenum disulfide or tungsten disulfide is comprised by 1 to 5 mass%, and calcium fluoride is comprised by 2 to 5 mass%.
