PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for bending a pipe, which apparatus has a simple configuration and does not cause wrinkles on the inside portion of a thin wall pipe when bending the pipe so as to have a comparatively large radius of curvature by the rotary draw bending method, and further to provide a method for bending the pipe. SOLUTION: The apparatus for bending the pipe comprises a rotatable bending die 2 having a groove 2U corresponding to the bent shape of the pipe W, a clamp 8 for fixing one end portion of the pipe to the bending die, a pressing die 3 which has a groove 3U corresponding to the bent shape of the pipe, and grips the pipe by the groove 3U and the groove 2U of the bending die, and is movable in the axial direction of the pipe, a pressing means (a pressing actuator 4) for pressing the pressing die toward the bending die, and further a drawing means (a chuck 6 and a drawing actuator 5) capable of applying a drawing force in the axial direction of the pipe by gripping the other end portion of the pipe.
