PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safe electric carrier for a bed in which driving due to unintended operation of an operator is credibly prevented, and also to provide a drive control method for the same. SOLUTION: The electric carrier comprises a bed carriage 2 having moving canisters 21, an electric assist unit 25 arranged on the carriage 2 and having driving wheels 28 and 29, a controller 50 for controlling the electric assist unit 25, a pair of right and left operation levers 13 for outputting to the controller 50 an assist signal indicating assist content to be performed by the electric assist unit 25, and two switches 45 each arranged on each of the operation levers 13 for outputting to the controller 50 a permission signal that permits driving of the electric assist unit 25. When permission signals are outputted from both of the switches 45 and an assist signal or assist signals is/are outputted from one or both of the operation levers, the controller 50 makes the electric assist unit 25 to move according to the assist signal or the assist signals.
