PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a cost and improve its usability by simplifying the structure of a datum return device attached to a thread tension device. SOLUTION: This thread tension device of an overlock sewing machine is provided with two-system interlocking mechanisms of a first interlocking mechanism C1 displacing a datum return lever 17 by being driven by an operation of a tension knob displacing from a datum position in a pressurizing direction, and a second interlocking mechanism C2 displacing the datum return lever by being driven by the operation of the tension knob of the thread tension device displacing from the datum position in a decompressing direction, between a tension knob 9 and a datum return operation lever 13. The two-system interlocking mechanisms are provided with an interlocking avoiding means D1 avoiding the second interlocking mechanism in an inactive condition, when the first interlocking mechanism C1 is operated, and an interlocking avoiding means D2 avoiding the first interlocking mechanism in the inactive condition when the second interlocking mechanism C2 is operated, respectively. The two-system interlocking mechanisms are so constituted as to displace the datum return lever in the same direction in both cases of where the tension knob displaces in the pressurizing direction and where the tension knob displaces in the decompressing direction.
