The printer has a transfer cylinder (22) with elastic cover (26). The diameter of the sleeve face of the cylinder with the non-stressed cover mounted thereon is greater between the two ends of the cylinder than the diameter at the two ends. A counter pressure cylinder (23) forms a print gap with the transfer cylinder. The diameter differences can be fixed in dependence on the geometric properties of the transfer cylinder.
