Powder dosing unit (10) includes a tubular storage vessel (12). This is open at one end to receive the powder being dosed. Its plunger (16) moves axially. It reversibly seals the end remote from the open end (14). Powder is picked up at the opening (14) when it is immersed with given force, into the packing of powder (22) previously stored in the vessel (20). Two successive immersions in the powder, contacting the base of the vessel (20), consolidate it in the tube. The plunger ejects the powder into a dosing vessel on a weigher.
