Plastic protective cap comprises an outer cylinder casing ring (10) for fitting over a bung closure, a base ring (12) for receiving the outer periphery of a container base and connecting with predetermined breaking points (18) on the outer cylinder casing ring and a gripping plate (14) arranged in the center of the container base and hinged on the base ring using a film hinge (20). Preferred Features: Four predetermined breaking points displaced by 90[deg] are present for the base ring. The gripping plate is joined to the base ring so that it can be more easily ripped open than the predetermined breaking points between the base ring and the outer cylinder casing ring.
