A device for controlling the temperature of a liquid (I) in a sample container (11,18), comprising a control unit (1) connected to a heating unit (2) which acts on the liquid in the sample container, in which the liquid also contains absorption elements (II) in order to accelerate the required temperature adjustment. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling the temperature of a liquid (I) as above by adding (II) to the liquid and then irradiating the sample container so that at least some of the radiant energy is converted into heat in (II).
