A resonator is cleaned by means of a laser after reaching a preset frequency. Laser power is reduced while the laser operates at a higher pulse frequency than during alignment of the resonator. The laser's pulse frequency is raised so much for cleaning the resonator that power yielded drops to between 1/5 and 1/10 of laser power during stripping.
