Pile weatherstrip

A pile weather strip is formed by connecting a multifilament tape 10 to a carrier 20 along a connection line 16 spaced from the edges of the tape 10. The filaments 11 of the tape 10 extend transverse to its length. The tape may be cut along cut lines spaced from the side edges 17, 18 of the tape and spaced from and parallel to the connection line 16. The tape 10 may be formed by knitting or by crocheting. An air-impervious fin 29 may be incorporated into the weather strip and may be connected to the tape 10 along the connection line 16. The fin 29 may be welded to the tape 10 as the tape 10 is welded to the carrier 20. Also disclosed is a machine suitable for forming a pile weather strip and having features suitable for handing a multifilament tape in which the filaments extend generally transverse to its length.
