The invention relates to a memory management method for a multimode portable object in which the means for connection to a related host apparatus include both galvanic contacts and remote connection means, thereby defining a so-called contact operating mode and a so-called contactless operating mode, which operating modes are optionally simultaneous, characterised in that it includes the steps of: postponing memory block deletion in the event of a memory block deletion request and assigning a memory block to be deleted attribute to said memory block when the portable object is operating only in contactless mode; and subsequently, after switching to the contact operating mode, causing the deletion of all or part of the memory block having the memory block to be deleted attribute.
