1295783 Coiling wire or strip MORGAN CONSTRUCTION CO 7 Dec 1970 [8 Dec 1969] 58010/70 Heading B3E [Also in Division B8] A coil C, formed on a vertical mandrel 48, is transferred from a coil forming station 10 to a horizontal carrier arm 12a by a carriage 72 which supports a pivoted cradle 88 and which moves along pivoted rails 76. In operation, the coil supporting mandrel 48 is moved along a slot 54 in base 18 of the forming station 10 by a hydraulically operated carriage 28 so that the coil slides off the base 18 on to base 94 of the cradle 88. Pivoted fingers 98a and 98b are then closed around and above the coil so as to completely support the coil. The mandrel 48 is then lowered and the cradle 88 pivoted to the horizontal position about pivot 90. On reaching the horizontal position, the cradle 88 is moved by the rack and pinion actuated carriage 72 towards the carrier 12 so that the coil is axially inserted over the arm 12a. Finally the rails 76 are pivoted downwardly about pivot 62 so as to rest the coil on the arm 12a.
