摘要 1295239 Alkyeneoxide-isocyanate copolymers; polybutadiene-based rubber JAPANESE GEON CO Ltd 29 Dec 1970 [27 Dec 1969] 61697/70 Headings C3P C3R and C3S [Also in Divisions B1 and C2] Copolymers are prepared by polymerizing an alkylene oxide in the presence of an organic isocyanate and a catalyst composition comprising a mixture or a reaction product of a compound containing a phosphorus-oxygen bond and compound of a metal of Group III or IV of the Periodic Table. Normally 0À1 to 1,000, preferably 0À1 to 2À0, parts by weight of isocyanate may be employed for 100 parts of alkylene oxide, but even traces of isocyanate are stated to effect an increase in the degree of polymerization of the alkylene oxide. When diisocyanates are employed only one isocyanate usually reacts, the other remaining available for subsequent reaction with active hydrogencontaining compounds such as polyether, polyester and polybutadiene diols, and polyvinyl alcohol. The effectiveness of the catalysts may be enhanced by treatment with alcohols. In examples ethylene oxide, propylene oxide and mixtures of ethylene oxide with epichlorohydrin are copolymerized with phenyl isocyanate, ethyl isocyanate, 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate or hexamethylene diisocyanate using catalysts prepared from dibutyl tin oxide, dibutyl tin dilaurate, tin tetrachloride, triisobutyl aluminium, aluminium isopropoxide, aluminium chloride, zirconium chloride, zirconium oxychloride, tetraphenyl lead, boric acid, trimethylboron, ethyl orthosilicate and titanium tetrachloride on the one hand and orthophosphoric acid, metaphosphoric acid, tributyl phosphate, phosphorus oxychloride and aqueous diammonium phosphate on the other; in some cases further modified with n-butanol. Other suitable alkylene oxides are butene, isobutylene, trifluoromethylethylene, cyclohexene, styrene and butadiene oxides, epibromhydrin, and methylglycidyl, phenylglycidyl and allylglycidyl ethers. In Example 26 a polymer formed from ethylene oxide, epichlorohydrin and 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate is further reacted with polybutadiene diol, which combines with free isocyanate groups, to provide a rubbery copolymer which is subsequently compounded and subjected to conventional vulcanization. Uses.-For preparation of rubbers and other elastomeric materials.
