Matted wool fibre fleece has its density increased by carding the wool fibres with an admixt. of a proportion of highly shrinkable synthetic fibres, depositing the fibres in several transverse layers to form the fleece, which is first subjected to a needling process and then to a shrinking process to compact the fleece which may finally be subjected to dyeing, washing and drying.
