<p>1298929 Allyl alcohol preparation FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AG 11 June 1970 [2 July 1969 3 March 1970] 28264/70 Heading C2C Allyl alcohol is prepared by (i) contacting propylene, oxygen, acetic acid and water with a palladium catalyst at 50-250‹ C., (ii) condensing the resulting allyl acetate, acetic acid, water mixture, (iii) treating at least part of the latter, in the liquid phase, with an acid catalyst, at 50-150‹ C. and removing the catalyst, (iv) separating the obtained product, in a 1st distillation column into a head product (ternary azeotrope of alkyl acetate, allyl alcohol, and water) and a sump product (acetic-acid, allyl alcohol and water), (v) recycling at least part of the head product to stage (iii), separating the sump product, in a 2nd distillation column, into a head product (azeotrope of allyl alcohol and water) and a sump product (acetic acid and water), (vii) recycling the latter sump product to stage (i) and (viii) removing the latter head product.</p> |
