摘要 The present invention provides a method and a mechanism for controlling the flow of fluids having different densities and opacity levels, said method and mechanism being useful for automatically separating a high density fluid apart from a low density fluid during the flow of fluids. The process consists in pouring the high density fluid through a purge duct located at the lower portion of a container which stores both fluids that, when stratified by gravity are led by the duct, the fluid having the lowest density flowing after the fluid with the highest density has run out from the bottom of the container, both fluids having different opacity levels. An optical sensor for sensing different opacity degrees is placed on the purge or outlet duct of the recipient bottom, thereby detecting by the opacity differential the moment at which the high density fluid starts running out, and the low density fluid with different opacity starts to flow. The optical sensor transmits a signal to a con trol which closes a purge shutoff valve located downstream a surge tank placed between the sensor and the shutoff valve. The surge tank receives the dense fluid upon startoff of the purge and retains the first portions of the light fluid when it starts flowing, thereby preventing said light fluid from flowing after closing the shutoff valve so that the flow of fluid is interrupted. A container parallel to the surge tank is available in order to allow the fluid remaining in the mixture container to flow once the valve has been closed, and leaving the total amount of liquid with the lowest density of the initial mixture in the container.
